American Adventure Productions From 1973 through 1984, Mr. Wilcox produced and directed the documentary series THE AMERICAN SPORTSMAN, which won numerous Emmy Awards including Best Edited Sports Series five years in a row. Historic adventures produced and directed by Mr. Wilcox include the first video broadcast from the highest point on earth, the first helium balloon flight across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the first descent of China's Yangtze River, and the first documentary on the giant panda in the wild. Additionally, Mr. Wilcox has produced the coverage of numerous Olympic Games and adventure sport events such as the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. From 1990 to 1994 American Adventure Productions produced EXPEDITION EARTH, the documentary television series broadcast on ESPN. This series features extreme sports and wildlife filmed in remote areas around the world and won five Emmy Awards. Recently, the company produced a prime time special for NBC, BERMUDA TRIANGLE: SECRETS REVEALED; a feature film for Warner Brothers, THE AMAZING PANDA ADVENTURE, the first American feature film shot entirely in China and based on a story written by Mr. Wilcox. This film was nominated for the prestigious Environmental Media Award. The company also produces ADVENTURE QUEST, an adventure documentary series made for the Outdoor Life Network, which has won two Emmy Awards; SPORTMAN'S JOURNAL, a fishing series also for the Outdoor Life Network; a series of natural history specials for Disney/ABC based on the Academy Award-winning documentaries DISNEY'S TRUE LIFE ADVENTURES; an expedition series, THE NORTH FACE EXPEDITIONS, sponsored by The North Face for NBC television; and a 70 mm IMAX film, THE LADY AND THE PANDA, based on a true adventure story that occurred in China in the late 1930's. The Amazing Panda Adventure-Warner Bros. Ryan Tyler (Slater) is 10 years old and about to begin the adventure of his life. He's en route to China to visit his father, whom he hasn't seen in two years. Ryan's father, Michael (Stephen Lang), is a naturalist specializing in conservation of the Giant Pandas, who live exclusively in the bamboo-forested mountains of China. When Ryan arrives in China, he discovers his father preoccupied with the fate of the panda preserve he's helped to create. Ryan gamely tries to make the best of things and joins his dad, a young Chinese girl named Ling (Yi Ding) and an elderly Chinese man named Chu (Wang Eel), as they set out into the mountains to check on one of the pandas. The panda, a mother with a new baby, has been trapped by poachers. Ryan, Ling and Chu realize that the Poachers have stolen the mother panda's baby, and quickly set off to rescue the little panda and find their way back to civilization. When Ryan encounters the little panda, he forms a special bond with the roly-poly creature. As the trio of humans and their precious cargo overcome natural and man-made obstacles to return home, Ryan gains a greater understanding of himself and of his father's important work.
