One of America's top rock climbers, Todd Skinner, and his climbing partner Paul Piana will be joined by two South Africans (one black and one white) on this expedition to African country of Mali. Their goal is to climb a rock formation called "The Hand of Fatima", and investigate the local nomadic cultures that surround this rock escarpment. First they will visit the local Dogon and Tuareg people to learn how for centuries their ancient cultures have mastered the vertical with primitive climbing skills - high up on the cliffs are cave-burial sites used by the Dogon. They will also visit Timbuktu, the crossroads of the Sahara, with the traditional camel markets and kasbahs. Finally they will proceed to make a free and clean climbing ascent of the impressive rock formation, The Hand of Fatima.
